Mark Zinno: Objects May Be Closer Than They Appear
It's late June and the term "playoffs" and "wild card" can start to be thrown around. Certainly in two weeks after they play the All-Star Game it will be used ad nauseum. I love the spot the Orioles are in right now. Leading the wild card race, albeit by a slim margin, it's still a lead. But there is a caution, there are teams coming up close and making their move at the right time. Look at the Angels and their awful start. They are now just 4.5 games out of first place in their division. The Tigers struggled early and often. They are now just two games out of first place in the AL Central. The Dodgers large lead in the NL West is now just down to two games over the San Francisco Giants.
Baseball is the ultimate test of team's durability and consistency. The good players on the good teams usually prove themselves over 162 games. That looks like it is starting to happen. Let's just hope that the Orioles can hang on and prove they are better than expected.
