Federal Workers In D.C. Area Can Take Leave Monday

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The U.S. Office of Personnel Management says federal agencies in Washington will be open Monday, but employees will have the option of taking unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework.

The announcement was made Sunday afternoon in response to storms that left hundreds of thousands of people without power in the Washington area.

The leave policy should keep some drivers off the roads and ease a commute that could be difficult in parts of the region because of dark traffic signals.

The policy applies to non-emergency employees. Those eligible must notify their supervisors.
