New Superintendent Takes Over Howard Co. Schools

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) -- The first woman to lead Howard County's 50,000-student school district is set to begin her new job.

The Baltimore Sun  reports that Renee Foose will take over as superintendent of the school district on Monday. Foose is replacing Sydney Cousin, who is retiring. She has signed a four-year contract that will pay her $250,000 annually.

Foose has been an educator for about 15 years and most recently served as deputy superintendent for Baltimore County Public Schools.

Foose says she plans to focus on building confidence in the Howard County school system.
