$3M In Federal Aid For Sparrows Point Workers

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Sens. Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin have announced $3 million in assistance from the U.S. Department of Labor for more than 800 workers at the closed Sparrows Point Mill.

The National Emergency Grant was announced Tuesday. The grants provide resources to states and local workforce investment boards to quickly re-employ laid-off workers by offering training to increase occupational skills.

The senators are also working to obtain Trade Adjustment Assistance and the Health Care Tax Credit benefits for laid-off employees. The Department of Labor says the TAA petitions for all locations are still pending.
