BALTIMORE (AP) — A fourteenth Baltimore police officer has been sentenced for his role in a towing company extortion scheme.

Jaime Luis Lugo was sentenced in federal court in Baltimore on Tuesday to two years in prison.

Lugo, of Aberdeen, and other officers have pleaded guilty to a scheme in which they referred accident victims to a particular auto repair shop in exchange for payments from the business owners. Prosecutors say the company, Majestic Auto Repair Shop, was not an authorized tow company for the city of Baltimore.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says 14 officers have pleaded guilty in federal court and one has pleaded guilty in state court. One officer was convicted at trial. The final police officer to be sentenced in federal court is due for sentencing next month.
