BALTIMORE (AP) — Maryland officials say a program that allows habitual gamblers to bar themselves from casinos has hit a milestone.

The Maryland Lottery said Wednesday that the state’s “Voluntary Exclusion Program,” which began in January 2011, now has 100 participants.

People who register to be part of the program are taken off all casino mailing lists and are not eligible for casino promotions.

Participants who are discovered at a casino can be arrested for trespassing and their winnings can be confiscated.

Gamblers can sign up for the program either at the headquarters of the Maryland Lottery or at one of the state’s three casinos.

They can only sign up themselves and can choose to be in the program for two years or for life.
