Pilot Dies In Banner Plane Crash In Berlin

BERLIN, Md. (AP) — Maryland State police say one person has died in a small plane crash in Berlin.

Police said Garett Colona, 23, of Rhodesdale was the pilot and only occupant of the Piper Super Cub plane that crashed
on Thursday about 10:50 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say witnesses reported the plane appeared to be having engine trouble after dropping an advertising banner. Witnesses also told police that the aircraft’s wing appeared to have struck a large tree before crashing into the ground.

State police have notified officials with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation
Administration, and the investigation is continuing.
