WEATHER BLOG: Temps To Get Close To 100 Degrees On Thursday

What a beautiful day, weather-wise.

Sunshine has filled the sky, combining with low humidity/dew points for a wonderful afternoon. Mary Bubala called it a "10". Overall, temperatures are right around average. We started out the day at 69 (average is 67) degrees and have risen to 87 (average is 87) degrees as of 4 PM. Enjoy it today because this is July in Baltimore, so you know that the heat isn't going to stay away for too long.

The heat pump over the middle of the country continues. They really have not gotten much of a break this month. Temperatures are in the triple digits again from Oklahoma straight up to Iowa. A new front passing through the Northern Plains will tap into that heat and draw it our way tomorrow.

We will start off the day in the 60s, but end up rising close to 100 tomorrow afternoon. A heat advisory goes into effect starting at noon and continues through 8 PM tomorrow for most of the state. The dew points/humidity will start to rise again tomorrow afternoon, the dominate the day Friday as the temperatures go to the upper 90s once again.

There is the slight chance for a shower or thunderstorm tomorrow afternoon, while severe thunderstorms batter the Ohio Valley as the front moves east. That front will pass north of Maryland Friday, giving us a better chance for showers and thunderstorms - maybe some of them strong. The front will get strung out and lay over the state into Saturday, keeping some showers or thunderstorms around. That will also knock our temperatures back down to the 80s again.
