N.Y. Man Accused In Md. Killing Extradited From UK
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A 26-year-old New York man accused of a 2006 Hagerstown killing is being held without bail following his extradition from Great Britain.
Joshua Edwards appeared Monday in Washington County Circuit Court where Judge Kenneth Long Jr. ordered the Brooklyn man held pending trial Dec. 19.
Deputy State's Attorney Joseph Michael told Long that Edwards was returned Friday to Washington County.
Edwards was arrested in England in 2007 and fought extradition, arguing he could face the death penalty and later that he could be sentenced to life without parole, which he said would violate the European Human Rights Convention. U.S. authorities said he would not face death and a European court ruled this year that life without parole would not violate the convention.
Edwards is accused of fatally shooting Jackson Rodriguez.
