Ocean City Police Investigating Series Of Sex Assaults Against Women

OCEAN CITY, Md. (WJZ)—Ocean City police say a predator is targeting women in the resort town. At least three women have been attacked over the past month.

Mary Bubala reports police are now issuing an alert.

As thousands enjoy summer vacation in Ocean City, police are warning beachgoers to be on guard.

When the sun goes down, someone is targeting women.

There have been "three attempted assaults that have happened in the past month," said Jessica Waters, Ocean City Police Department.

In all three cases, the victims were approached just as they were leaving a bar alone.
Police say the women were intoxicated.

The attacks were near bars from 15th to 62nd streets in Ocean City in what some describe as poorly lit areas.

Police are now warning women to stick with a group late at night. It's something visitors we spoke with say they always do.

"Definitely, we always travel with the guys. We're never alone. Never," one woman said.

The suspect is described as a white man about 5 feet 10 inches tall, 170 pounds, in his mid-2's to early 30s. Ocean City police know the description is vague but so far that's all they have to go on.

Police say the man initiates conversation with the women before attempting to assault them.

Police are checking surveillance cameras in the vicinity of the attacks.
