Howard County Police Shoot And Kill Suspect Wanted For Assault

COLUMBIA, Md. (WJZ)-- Howard County police have shot and killed a Baltimore man who had fled with his two-year-old child after holding his estranged girlfriend and the mother of that child at gunpoint.

Howard County police say Baltimore City police called them for help around 7:45 p.m. Thursday after they located a suspect at an acquaintance's home in the 9000-block of Constant Course in Columbia.

Howard County police say that officers in the back of the house were confronted outside by the suspect and when they asked him several times to show his hands, he did not comply. A Howard County police officer shot the suspect during the confrontation. The suspect was taken to the Howard County General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say that according to the Baltimore City police warrant, the suspect broke into his ex-girlfriend's Baltimore house after midnight on Thursday morning, put a gun to her head and told her he was going to kill her. They also add that he assaulted her. The woman was able to escape Thursday morning and called 911. In the meantime, the suspect fled with the couple's child.

He was charged with first- and second-degree assault, gun charges and reckless endangerment. His name has not been released pending the notification of his next of kin of his death.
