Md. Man Wins $1.4M In White Marlin Open

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- A Pasadena man took the $1.4 million first prize in Ocean City's White Marlin Open after landing the only white marlin to qualify for the tournament.

William Woody caught the 72-pound white marlin on Wednesday aboard the Blew Bayou. The prize, expected to total $1,429,092, tops the $1,394,480.50 won in 2007 for an 83-pound white marlin.

The marlin caught by Woody was the only one this year to meet tournament requirements of measuring at least 67 inches and weighing 70 pounds. Competitors did not catch a qualifying blue marlin.

More than 250 boats participated in the open, competing for more than $2.3 million in prizes.
