Purple Fever Escalates As Ravens Get Set For First Preseason Home Game

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Purple passion is in full force as the Ravens get ready to play their second preseason game, the first on home turf.

Gigi Barnett is following the fan excitement.

"I do have some Joe Flacco," Geri Durham, co-owner of the Sports Shop, said to a caller.

Phone calls are non-stop at the Sports Shop in Towson Town Center mall.

"They just want to be decked out in purple. Whether they're going to the game on Friday night or whether they're going to join friends for parties," Durham said.

The mad dash is a sure sign season is about to heat up. Fans are buying purple sandals, bibs for babies, even the bottles to go along.

It's too many choices for a fair-weather sports watcher, but not for a fan on fire like Dave Hall, who's waited patiently for the season to begin.

"I've been waiting a long time, several months now," Dave Hall said.

Hall wants something new in purple and black even though his closet is already full.

Barnett: "And you still want more?"
Hall: "Yes, I do. Between me and my father, we have a ton and we still keep collecting."

The Sports Shop says fans who are buying now come in every category, even those who need purple passion ties.

"I work at a car dealership. So, I need ties to show my Ravens pride on Fridays," Rob Miller said. "Didn't have one so I knew only one place to come and get one."

Barnett: "So will you sport the tie at the game?"
Miller: "Not wearing the tie. That's for work only."

Fans at M&T Bank Stadium say they are on the lookout for gear that helps them stand out in the crowd.
