Heavy Rain

WASHINGTON (AP) — The National Weather Service says weekend storms dumped record amounts of rain at Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

The weather service says 3.36 inches of rain fell at the airport on Sunday. That breaks the previous daily record of 1.73 inches set in 1974.

The heavy rains caused scattered power outages, road closures and tornado warnings across the region. Maryland emergency management officials say about 6,000 customers statewide lost power during the storms. The rains also forced the state fair to close for the day on Sunday. The fair reopened Monday.
