3 In Md. Hospitalized By Listeria-Tainted Cheese

BALTIMORE (AP) -- State health officials say three people have been hospitalized after consuming listeria-tainted cheese.

Forever Cheese Inc. is recalling Ricotta Salata Frescolina brand cheese with the lot number T9425 and production code 441202 due to possible listeria contamination.

The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is advising people not to consume Forever Cheese Ricotta Salata Frescolina brand cheese or foods made with the cheese. Officials also urge residents to clean surfaces such as cutting boards that may have come in contact with the cheese.

The Baltimore Sun reports that Maryland averages 15 cases a year of listeriosis. The illness is treatable with antibiotics.
