Orioles Fever Runs High After Team Wins Against Rays; Team Has First Non-Losing Season In 14 Years

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- A milestone for the Baltimore Orioles as they win an epic 14-inning game to sweep the Tampa Bay Rays. This victory guarantees the O's will stop their 14-year streak of losing seasons. Baltimore is still tied for first place in the American League East and playoff hopes are getting stronger.

Kai Jackson has more on the excitement.

It was old school Orioles magic at Camden Yards Thursday by a new generation of the baseball birds who swept the Tampa Bay Rays.

And fans couldn't be more excited about what's now a guaranteed break even season.

Jackson: "As a fan how does it feel?"
David Osmundson: "It feels wonderful, unbelievable."

The Orioles' success means big business for baseball and Baltimore at a business called The Sports Shop in the Light Street Pavilion downtown.

"Everyone's so excited about the team this year," Nate Scroggins, manager of The Sports Shop, said.

All things Orioles, including shirts and hoodies, are flying off the shelves.

"Everybody wants to come in and buy their Orioles paraphernalia and so we're very excited about it," Scroggins said.

No matter what happens with the Orioles from this point on, for many fans, just having a winning season is a successful season.

"I'm very, very, very happy. We have an awesome team, awesome momentum going on. I see the morale and I love it," Orioles fan Ashlee Barnes said.

Businesses like the Pratt Street Ale House see a boost in business with fans fired-up about the team.

"We're seeing people from farther and farther outside the downtown area coming in to watch the games," Arnold Dion, the assistant general manager of the Ale House, said.

The Orioles say that attendance for this series with Tampa Bay was 74,000-- double the number for the series last year.
