ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland’s state prosecutor says a verbal agreement has been reached to settle cases involving a lawmaker accused of using campaign funds to pay for wedding expenses and using state money to pay an employee in her private law firm.

State Prosecutor Emett Davitt said Friday he was limited in what he could say now about the agreement involving Delegate Tiffany Alston, D-Prince George’s. He’s describing it as “a total resolution” of the two cases.

Attorneys discussed the agreement without elaborating on details during a court hearing Thursday.

Another hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

Alston was convicted in June of using about $800 in state money to pay an employee in her law firm. A trial had been scheduled for next month on the case involving her wedding expenses.
