Democrats Endorse LaFerla In The 1st District

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland Democratic Party is officially endorsing Dr. John LaFerla to run as a write-in candidate in the 1st district congressional race.

Yvette Lewis, the party chair, announced the endorsement Monday, after votes by the local county central committees in the district, which includes the Eastern Shore as well as parts of Cecil, Harford, Baltimore and Carroll counties.

LaFerla, of Chestertown, is running in place of Wendy Rosen, who barely won the primary and abruptly stepped aside last week after the party announced it had learned she had voted in Maryland and Florida in 2006 and 2008.

It's too late to take Rosen's name off the ballot and add LaFerla's, so he will be running as a write-in candidate against Republican incumbent Rep. Andy Harris, who is an anesthesiologist.
