Former Md. Police Chief Returns For 10th Anniversary Of Serial Sniper Attacks
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Former Montgomery County Police Chief Charles Moose is returning to the Washington area to help mark the 10th anniversary of the sniper attacks.
For three weeks in October 2002, random shootings in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia terrorized the region, and 10 people were killed. John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo were later convicted.
On Tuesday, the National Law Enforcement Museum is convening police officials to discuss the case. Moose is scheduled to take part, along with Prince William County, Va., Police Chief Charles Dean and retired Maryland State Police Lt. David Reichenbaugh.
Moose served as the public face of a multi-agency task force during the shooting spree. In 2003, he resigned as chief amid criticism for writing a book about the case that made him famous.
