BALTIMORE (AP) — Johns Hopkins University has been awarded a $7.4 million grant to help boost science and math learning in Baltimore elementary schools.

The grant was announced Monday by members of Maryland’s congressional delegation.

The money will be awarded over a five-year period. It comes from the National Science Foundation.

The STEM Achievement in Baltimore Elementary Schools program is a partnership between Hopkins and Baltimore City Public Schools. It focuses on improving the teaching of science, technology, education and mathematics.

A formal announcement has been set for Tuesday in Baltimore. Sen. Barbara Mikulski and Sen. Ben Cardin are scheduled to attend. Rep. Elijah Cummings and Rep. John Sarbanes also are set to attend, along with Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.
