Howard Co. Police Investigate String Of Daytime Burglaries

HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- Howard County Police are warning citizens to be vigilant after a recent string of daytime burglaries.

There have been 10 cases this week and police are investigating the incidents as related.

The cases began Sept. 24 and have happened in Ellicott City, Columbia, Elkridge, Clarksville and Woodbine. In each case, someone is kicking in a locked door to gain entry.

In many cases, police believe the suspect is knocking on the door first to determine if anyone is home before kicking it in. Once inside, the suspect is stealing jewelry, electronics and cash.

Residents are asked to report any suspicious activity in their communities, including if someone knocks on a door and then makes an excuse to leave.

Police are reminding everyone to lock their doors and dead bolts. It's also a good idea to keep valuables in an unexpected place or a home safe.
