Prominent Md. Lobbyist Fined For Lead Violation

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Prominent Maryland lobbyist Bruce Bereano has been fined $13,000 for lead paint violations at two Anne Arundel County rental properties.

The Maryland Department of the Environment announced the fine on Friday against Bereano, who says the properties don't contain any lead paint.

The complaint in the case says an inspector visited one of the properties in June and found visible chipping, peeling or flaking paint on the outside of the property. And the department says Bereano has not obtained certificates for the properties showing they are in compliance with lead paint regulations.

Bereano says the properties were gutted in the 1970s and completely rebuilt and do not contain any lead paint. The lobbyist added he is working with the Department of the Environment to address the complaint.
