Anacostia River Trip To Launch New RiverView App

BLADENSBURG, Md. (AP) -- Kayaks, canoes and paddle boards will be heading down the length of the Anacostia River to mark the 40th anniversary of the Clean Water Act and launch a new app for river lovers.

Members of paddling, surfing and environmental groups will join federal officials in paddling the entire river on Saturday. The event is being used as the East Coast launch of the new RiverView app. The app was developed in partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency by the San Diego-based nonprofit Below the Surface. The app allows the public to post photos of rivers using social media, which the developers hope will encourage individuals to explore and care for the nation's waterways.
