Orioles Fans Fired Up After Team Gets Chance To Compete In The Playoffs
BALTIMORE (WJZ)– The Orioles’ win against the Red Sox helped the team clinch a spot in the coveted playoffs.
Derek Valcourt has all the fan excitement.
What a season, and fans say this has been a long time coming.
Fans haven’t had a taste of playoffs at the tips of their tongue for a while.
“I’ve been here for a long time and this is wonderful,” an Orioles fan said. “You come out here year after year, they’re bad. And this year, they are awesome.”
And most fans have the same theory on the secret to the O’s success: Buck Showalter.
Valcourt: “What do we owe the success to this year?”
Orioles fan: “It’s all about Buck.”
“Buck Showalter is the man. He’s leading us all the way. We are going to beat everybody.”
“Buck is awesome. He is like Earl Weaver on steroids.”
“He’s been the spark that’s made it happen. It started last year.”
For the youngest fans, this kind of a winning season is a first for their hometown team.
“Basically our entire lives, we’ve never seen this. The Orioles do good so this is really exciting for us.”
“For most of my 14 years so far it’s been not the best, but I’ve hanging in there and waited for them to get the chance and now we are going all the way.”
Even longtime Bird watchers are opening their beaks to squawk about the O’s baseball excitement.
“It’s great to see the ballpark alive covered in orange. No Red Sox fans here for a change.”
“They are playing as a team, they are good, they are young. This year is going to be good but the next three or four are going to be even more special.”
“Every time I turn around they are winning with less and less players, injuries left and right. Happy to see them winning for a change.”
“We’re coming down the stretch. We’re going to the playoffs and we are going to win the World Series.”
Most fans say they’ll be glued to their TVs watching the last few games of the regular season, crossing their fingers the whole time for a phenomenal playoff run.
The O’s now head to Tampa Bay to face off against the Rays in their last three games of the season.
