New Children's Museum To Open Near D.C. In December

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The National Children's Museum says it will open in December at a site along the Potomac River just south of Washington.

The museum is building a new home at National Harbor in Maryland. On Thursday, the museum announced it will open its doors on Dec. 14. It previously operated as the Capitol Children's Museum for 30 years in Washington.

Part of the new museum will have a "Sesame Street" theme for children ages 3 and under. The museum announced a partnership last year with the TV show's creators to give Elmo and his friends a museum home.

The museum will include two exhibit areas and a 130-seat theater. It hopes to draw 480,000 children annually.

Admission will cost $10 per person. It also will offer field trips and birthday packages.
