Order Maryland Seafood, Help Restore The Bay

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A new promotion seeks to restore the Chesapeake Bay by encouraging diners to order Maryland seafood.

The second "From the Bay, For the Bay" promotion begins this weekend. State officials plan to kick off the promotion Wednesday at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, where they will also announce oyster restoration progress.

Proceeds from the week-long promotion help the Oyster Recovery Partnership, a nonprofit group that has planted hundreds of millions of oysters in the bay, where the filter feeders help improve water quality. Participating restaurants are donating $1 for every Maryland seafood dinner that is sold during the week to the partnership.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is sponsoring the promotion along with the partnership.
