Report Card: No Improvement For Baltimore Harbor
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A new report card shows water quality in Baltimore's harbor did not improve last year.
The report card to be released Thursday shows oxygen levels and water clarity improved, but chlorophyll levels were worse.
The report card was released by the Healthy Harbor Initiative, which laid some of the blame on heavy rains last year that washed pollution into the harbor.
The report card is designed to help track progress in reaching the initiative's goal of a swimmable, fishable harbor by 2020.
Students from Tench Tilghman Elementary and Middle School are to help release the report card at a city park.
The students will paint a storm drain with graphics designed to discourage illegal dumping of trash, oil and other pollutants.
