In 1844, Boys’ Latin was founded by a Princeton professor based on a then novel principle that boys learn best when their unique interests and talents are taken into account. Today at BL, this focus on the individual is still a central to our educational experience. We also understand the importance of creating an environment where boys learn best. To really know boys is to know how they think – that they respond best to experiential, hands-on learning that appeals to the different senses, involving action and movement. We understand that boys need to know why something is important and what significance it has for them. Boys are motivated by the belief that their efforts will produce a positive, tangible outcome, and it is this intrinsic motivation that makes the difference. It is within a nurturing environment where each boy is uniquely cherished and loved that this is best achieved. Guided by more than 160 years of experience, modern cognitive research and a school-wide commitment to excellence, our approach is to continually improve our educational experience for the boys.
