UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — Verizon and Prince George’s County officials are working to fix glitches with the county’s new 311 system.

Some callers who used Verizon phone lines to seek non-emergency help from the county government were told by a recorded voice that the number was not in service. Other callers using cell phones were connected to the District of Columbia’s or Montgomery County’s 311 system instead.

The Washington Post reports that Verizon phone lines, especially in the southern part of the county, weren’t adjusted to connect with the service. A Verizon official says the company is working to repair the problems.

The 311 service went into service on Oct. 1. Prince George’s residents can also log on to the county’s website to access the call center.
