Ocean City Police Chief To Head Sarasota Force

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) — Ocean City’s police chief has been selected to head the Sarasota, Fla., police department.

Bernadette DiPino will become Sarasota’s first female police chief, the department announced Tuesday. She starts her new job on Jan. 1.

DiPino, 48, is a fourth-generation police officer. She started her career in 1985 with Baltimore County police. She joined the Ocean City force in 1988 and was appointed chief in 2003.

An acting chief will be chosen from the Ocean City police force, and then the town will conduct a national search for a new chief.
