Gilman/McDonogh “Sleep Out For The Homeless” Clothing Drive

View Comments

You know about the fierce spirit of competition that drives the Gilman-McDonogh football rivalry. But do you also know about the noble spirit of cooperation that unites these two historic schools?

Come witness such cooperation firsthand at this year’s game on Saturday, October 27, as Gilman and McDonogh students together work to help the homeless in Baltimore City. Or, better yet, be a part of such an endeavor yourself by contributing to the Gilman/McDonogh Sleep Out for the Homeless Clothing Drive.

There will be a booth by the middle school playground where we, along with the McDonogh community, will collect financial donations and articles of clothing.

We ask that clothing/shoe donations be appropriate for outdoor activities. There is an urgent need for cold weather items like coats, hats, scarves, mittens, and boots. Blankets are also welcome. Financial donations will go to support Our Daily Bread Employment Center and Jobs, Housing & Recovery. Checks may be made out to Jobs, Housing & Recovery, with a note “Baltimore Sleep Out”. Alternatively, donations may be made online at http://baltimoresleepout.org/teams?teamid=12 or on the Gilman website.

After the game, both Gilman and McDonogh students will transport all the items to Our Daily Bread Employment Center, where 150 students from schools all over the Baltimore area will sort them out as part of an evening of workshops, activities, and service projects focused on the problems and challenges of homelessness.

Thank you in advance for your support of this worthy cause!
