EDGEWOOD, Md. (WJZ) --  A 5-year-old boy has been killed in a one-alarm fire in Edgewood.

It happened Friday around 6:30 p.m. in the 1400-block of Charlestown Drive.

Approximately 45 firefighters from Joppa, Abingdon, Aberdeen, Aberdeen Proving Grounds and Kingsville Volunteer Fire Departments controlled the blaze within 25 minutes.

A father escaped with his 2-year-old daughter, but was not able to save his 5-year-old son.

Investigators say the fire originated in the basement of the home.  The home had working smoke alarms, but the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
