1 Person Dies In Germantown Crash During Storm

GERMANTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The state health department says a woman was killed in a Montgomery County crash related to the effects of Hurricane Sandy, but county police say the accident may have other causes.

Health Secretary Joshua Sharfstein says the medical examiner confirms the death Monday is storm-related. Sharfstein says the woman was killed when a car skidded on a wet road.

But Cpl. Paul Starks says that while the weather may have caused the accident, police haven't made a determination or ruled out other factors. He says it was raining in Germantown when the crash occurred shortly after 11:30 a.m., and the road was wet.

Police say a car crossed the center line and hit another car, killing its driver. Police identified her as 66-year-old Mai Ai Lam-Phan of Clarksburg. The driver of the other car and his passenger were injured.
