Officials Attribute Another Md. Death To Sandy

Hurricane Sandy Strengthens

OAKLAND, Md. (AP) — Authorities say an elderly man in western Maryland died earlier this week while shoveling snow after Sandy spawned a blizzard that buried the mountainous region under two feet of snow.

County emergency management chief Brad Frantz said Thursday that the man died of natural causes while working outside Monday. He was in his 80s and lived near Oakland. Authorities haven’t released his name.

Authorities have attributed several deaths in Maryland to the superstorm, including a 50-year-old contractor who was killed by a falling tree in Annapolis while removing debris from the storm; a 74-year-old retiree who died after a tree fell on his one-story ranch house in Pasadena late Monday; and a woman who was killed in a head-on collision in Germantown that state officials said was weather-related.
