LINTHICUM, Md. (AP) — The Maryland State Highway Administration is completing work on a bridge over the Baltimore-Washington Parkway that began two weeks ago but ran into trouble.
Crews have removed the 300-ton West Nursery Road bridge that runs over the parkway and reopened the parkway by early Saturday. The road is set to close again at 10 p.m. Saturday night when crews will wheel a new bridge into place.
The work is being completed over the parkway’s northbound lanes near Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
The $6 million construction project ran into trouble Oct. 20 when workers removed one bridge deck. The load apparently shifted on a piece of hauling equipment. Officials then had to close the busy parkway for the entire weekend.
