BALTIMORE (WJZ)—The Ravens are showing how great they are both on and off the field by giving back to those in need.

Christie Ileto was there as they handed out winter gear to some deserving fans.

Tuesday wasn’t about x’s and o’s but about giving back to fans in need.

“The city means a lot to us as players, just like we mean a lot to the city, so anytime we get an opportunity to give back, we do,” said Tory Smith.

Smith is one of several Ravens players who handed out winter gear to 200 men staying at the Helping Up Mission in East Baltimore on Tuesday.

Many of the men are homeless or recovering from addiction.

“It’s definitely important. It’s winter time. It’s freezing,” Smith said.

And for Christopher Husketch, it means he won’t go without this winter.

“I can’t actually afford a coat,” Husketch said. “I don’t have a job at the present time.”

More than just coats are being given away.

“They’re going to get a hat, gloves, earmuffs, personal care kit with wash cloth and towel, bar of soap,” said Wade Brown.

Brown, from Daikon Kathryn’s Kloset, says it’s more than just the winter gear—but the players that make the experience.

“It’s really to build their self esteem, to let them know that the track they’re on is the right track,” Brown said.

Because the players know it’s not just about the coat, but about supporting those who support them on the field.

Some of the lucky recipients were able to walk away with autographed footballs and cleats for answering some trivia questions correctly.
