Essex Man Charged In Fatal Stabbing Of His Girlfriend

ESSEX, Md. (AP) -- Baltimore County police have charged a 56-year-old Essex man with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of his girlfriend this week.

Police say a woman called 911 on Monday afternoon to ask officers to check on the welfare of her mother, 48-year-old Janet Palasik, who was visiting John W. Falkenstein Jr. at his home in the 700 block of Myrth Avenue.

Police say they spoke to Falkenstein at the home and later discovered Palasik's body covered with a blanket in the kitchen.

Authorities say Falkenstein and Palasik had been involved in an argument before Falkenstein stabbed her.

Falkenstein was being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
