Former Mayor Sheila Dixon: Probation Violation A 'Setback'

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Former Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon is calling her new probation violation charge a "setback" and says she's not enjoying her fresh legal troubles.

Dixon is serving a term of probation for theft and perjury charges.

She was charged with violating the terms of her probation after falling more than $13,000 behind on court-ordered charitable contributions. She's at risk of losing her city pension.

Dixon tells The Baltimore Sun that "nobody knows my situation" and that she's trying to do her best. She says she's working to make the payments.

Dixon, a Democrat, resigned in 2010 after she pleaded guilty to lying about gifts from her ex-boyfriend, a developer. A jury also found her guilty of stealing about $500 in gift cards donated to the city for needy families.
