Howard County Police Investigate Shooting At Columbia Taco Bell

COLUMBIA, Md. (WJZ) -- A shooting at a Taco Bell in Howard County leaves one employee in the hospital.

Derek Valcourt has more on what happened.

It happened Sunday in the 7100-block of Minstrel Way in Columbia. The manager of the Taco Bell is struggling to survive after two gunmen opened fire.

The victim's girlfriend and best friend spoke to store employees outside of the Taco Bell, but declined to speak with WJZ. The store manager is still in critical condition at Shock Trauma.

"I hope he lives. It's just too dangerous to be out at night," said one resident.

No one affiliated with Taco Bell would speak with WJZ, but police say it was just before 1 a.m. when two unknown, armed men approached the victim as he left the store and opened fire--shooting him multiple times. He managed to make it back into the store. His employees called 911 and he was flown to Shock Trauma.

"That's something I didn't imagine. That's normally dealt with pretty quick. The crime rate here is zero-to-none, so I'm surprised to hear something like that," said another resident.

Police have not indicated that this was in any way a robbery. In fact, they say they don't know the motive for this shooting.

Anyone with information is urged to call Howard County Police.
