DNR Giving Update On Deep Creek Lake Sedimentation

OAKLAND, Md. (AP) — Maryland Natural Resources Secretary John Griffin is traveling to far western Maryland to give residents an update on the health of Deep Creek Lake.

The visit Wednesday afternoon comes one year after Griffin announced plans to study distribution of an invasive aquatic plant called Eurasian water milfoil. Some area residents say the long-stemmed plant could strangle the boating opportunities that make the mountain reservoir a tourist magnet.

Meeting organizers say Griffin also will discuss a sedimentation study slated for completion in the spring. Some lakeside property owners say sediment buildup has made their docks unusable because the water is too shallow.

DNR spokesman Josh Davidsburg says the lake is generally in good shape.
