SALISBURY, Md. (AP) — A sheriff on Maryland’s Eastern shore says a bus driver involved in a collision that killed a teenage boy failed to yield the right-of-way.

But Wicomico County Sheriff Mike Lewis also says the off-road motorcycle that two teenage boys were riding during the crash wasn’t properly registered. Police documents show neither boy was wearing a helmet or safety gear. The Sept. 13 accident occurred when the dirt bike collided with a Shore Up! bus, killing a 15-year-old boy on the motorcycle.

Lewis tells the Daily Times of Salisbury that although his office is preparing to close its investigation, the decision on whether to prosecute rests with county prosecutors.

Meanwhile, Fruitland police continue to investigate a separate bus accident that occurred that same day that killed a 71-year-old woman.
