Wal-Mart Manager Shot Near Store; Police Look For Suspect

LAUREL, Md. (WJZ) --A Wal-Mart manager is in the hospital after being shot during a robbery.

Rochelle Ritchie has new information on the suspect.

Newly released surveillance photos are providing a better look at the suspect.

Anne Arundel County Police are hoping the more than 20 surveillance cameras outside a Laurel Wal-Mart will help nab the man who shot a 28-year-old Wal-Mart manager.

"The suspect entered the Wal-Mart in the early morning hours, accosted or approached this employee, and demanded money from the business," said Justin Mulcahy, Anne Arundel County Police spokesperson.

It was around 4 a.m. when the store was practically empty -- except with employees -- when the man walked in.

"A gentleman came in, a man came in, he had gloves on his hands, he had jackets and something around his neck, like he was feeling cold," said Jessie Semure, an employee who witnessed the incident.

Semure spoke with the suspect who he said appeared nervous, but he never suspected anything until shots rang out.

"Ali came to me and said when you are done zoning, zone the other way. I said OK, and then sometime I saw people coming inside saying they shot Ali," he said.

For those who frequent the Wal-Mart, the shooting is unnerving.

"I'm very surprised. I used to live down in Laurel. Did a lot of shopping in this area. I now live somewhere else but I come back here and shop and it's terrible that this kind of thing goes on. You don't expect it to happen," said one shopper.

Police will use the cameras from inside the store to help in their investigation and put the pistol toting suspect behind bars.

"The suspect is still outstanding and not in custody. We're asking the public to come forward with any information they may have on this case," Mulcahy said.

The victim is recovering at Prince George's County Trauma Center.
