2 Men Reject Plea Deal In Deaths Of Md. Children

BALTIMORE, Md. (AP) -- A defense lawyer says two illegal immigrants from Mexico accused of slashing the throats of three young relatives in Baltimore have rejected a plea offer from prosecutors.

Adan Canela and Policarpio Espinoza Perez on Thursday rejected the offer, which called for a life sentence with all but 40 years suspended.

A third trial in the 2004 slayings is now set for March.

The jury failed to reach a verdict in the first trial.

An appeals court overturned the guilty verdicts and life sentences from the second trial, after defense lawyers argued that the judge failed to properly disclose several jury notes.

There have been questions about the case being difficult to prosecute after so long.
