Md. Man Fires AK-47 Into Air, Faces Charges

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County Police say a Gaithersburg man is facing multiple charges after admitting to firing an AK-47 into the air in his backyard.

Capt. Paul Starks told WTOP that nobody was hurt and a search of the unidentified 38-year-old man's home also found several other weapons, including a shotgun and two handguns. Starks says he faces charges including discharging a firearm in an urban area and possibly reckless endangerment.

Police say they are still investigating but they do not have any reason to believe the guns were purchased illegally.
