Montgomery County Suggests New Track For MARC Line
ROCKVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County planners are recommending construction of a third track to improve service on the Brunswick Line of the MARC rail commuter system.
The Washington Examiner reported Sunday that that proposed track would run from Frederick County to the Metropolitan Grove stop between Germantown and Gaithersburg.
Planners say it would give track owner CSX Corp. more options for juggling commuter and freight traffic. Their report says conflicts between freight and passenger trains limit the prospects for significantly increasing MARC service.
The Brunswick Line runs from Martinsburg, W.Va., to Union Station in Washington. It has daily ridership of 7,700 trips.
