Cole's 21 Lead Coppin State Over Cheyney 98-78

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Patrick Cole scored 21 points to lead five Coppin State players in double figures in a 98-78 victory over Cheyney Saturday in nonconference play.

The Eagles (1-4), who began the season by going 0-4 in the Maui Invitational, quickly jumped on the Division II Wolves (1-1). Coppin State led 49-34 at halftime.

Although Cheyney drew within 84-72 with 3:58 to play, Coppin State pulled away to win handily.

Besides Cole, Zachary Burnham scored 16 points for Coppin State while Michael Murray posted a 14-point, 15-rebound double-double. Troy Franklin scored 13 points and Taariq Cephas 12, both players coming off the bench. The Eagles scored 35 points off 24 Cheyney turnovers.

For the Wolves, Rashaad Slappy led four in double figures with 21 points.  Jason Sabb finished with 19 while Eugene Lett and Brandon Norfleet added 13 and 12 respectively. Cheyney made just 3 of 16 treys.
