HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) — A new mayor and City Council are taking office in Hagerstown.

The swearing-in Monday of Mayor-elect David Gysberts and three new members of the five-member council appears to dim the prospects for a new minor-league baseball stadium downtown.

Outgoing mayor Robert Bruchey championed the $37 million proposal but Gysberts has been noncommittal.

Two of the incoming council members say would prefer to see 82-year-old Municipal Stadium refurbished. The two incumbents are in favor. That could make newcomer Kristin Aleshire the swing vote on the stadium issue.

The city is home to the Hagerstown Suns, a Class A affiliate of the Washington Nationals. The Suns say Municipal Stadium has a substandard playing surface and antiquated clubhouse facilities.
