State Police Had Additional Patrols Over Holiday

PIKESVILLE, Md. (AP) -- The Maryland State Police say troopers stopped more than 8,900 vehicles during the Thanksgiving weekend.

Police announced Monday that 96 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence. Fifty-six people also were arrested for drug violations. Police say there were 133 people arrested for various other criminal violations. Troopers also recovered three guns during traffic stops.

All 22 state police barracks took part in focusing on impaired or distracted drivers. They also were on the lookout for aggressive drivers and speeders, as well as people who were not wearing seatbelts.

Police say additional initiatives will continue through the holiday season.
