The cold air is in place, and now we have a new storm moving into this air.
Monday will be a break day before the new storm gets here. Expect sunshine to give way to increasing clouds during the day, then clouds to take over Monday night. Since there is cold air in place, this storm is going to bring us a mix of rain and snow. Yes, some people will see snow in Maryland.
Even though it has been running well below average, we don’t have a huge supply of really deep cold air to support a lot of accumulating snow. There is the chance for some snow to maybe lay on cars and grassy surfaces in the metro area if it comes down hard enough Tuesday, while north and west of the city there is the chance for a small accumulation. Most of the roads will just be wet during the day since temperatures will top out in the upper 30s/low 40s. But when the sun sets, there could be some icy patches on the roads. South and east of the city, this will be a mainly rain event.
The storm gets out of here early Wednesday. Cool air will continue to dominate the forecast, but it will be drier for a few days. Highs will continue to top out below average, in the 40s Wednesday through Friday.
