Adam Jones Gives 2 Baltimore Families A Holiday Shopping Spree

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—The city loves him, and Adam Jones shows his youngest fans he loves them right back.

Jessica Kartalija reports from Baltimore County.

The Orioles center fielder takes some deserving families on a shopping spree just in time for the holidays.

Jones helped lead the Orioles to the playoffs in the 2012 season. Now he's making the holiday season a winner.

Arriving in style, two deserving families from Baltimore City meet Jones at the Target store on Reisterstown Road.

"I'm very happy, and I thank God because they might not have gotten things they wanted to get," said Mary Malloy.

It's about "giving back to the community that has blessed me," Jones said. "Baltimore has blessed me extremely, and it's rewarding."

Jones, who was a little shy of all the attention, trades cleats for shopping shoes on a mission for some great Christmas presents.

"Tablet, some games and a jacket and some clothes," is what Maurice Hill said he planned to get.

The center fielder sure can shop. Does he shop as well as he plays?

"Oh, I'm a big shopper!" Jones said.

And so are the families.

"Games and some clothes," one little shopper said.

Just like his talent on the field, Jones hits this holiday out of the park.

"I think they know it's cool, but I don't think they realize how cool it is," one woman said.

The families were selected through OriolesREACH and the baseball club's partnership with Baltimore City schools.

And we may see Jones shopping in Baltimore more often. He tells us he is looking to buy a home here in Maryland.
